Johnny Canales Cause of Death Corpus Christi, TX: Mexican Tejano singer Johnny Canales passes away

On June 13, 2024, Johnny Canales passed away at the age of 76.

The Johnny Canales Show’s presenter, Juan José Canales, was a Tejano musician from Mexico. August 19, 1947, was Juan José Canales’s birthdate in General Treviño. The Johnny Canales Show made its premiere in 1983, with Johnny Canales serving as executive producer. His show featured up-and-coming bands from the US and Mexico. La Sombra de Chicago, Jennifer Peña, Los Tigres del Norte, Los Relámpagos del Norte, La Mafia, Mazz, Intocable, Grupo Pegasso De Emilio Reyna, Fama, Jaime y Los Chamacos, Jennifer Peña, and many others were among his guests. From 1988 until 1996, it was shown on Televisa in Mexico and Univision in the US.

Canales switched to the Telemundo Network in 1996. Canales was interviewed for the UTA Center for Mexican American Studies Oral History Project on November 12, 1997.[8] throughout 2002, Johnny Canales came to a deal with Televisa to revive his show, and he made plans to resume traveling, performing throughout Mexico and the Southwest region of the United States. In addition, TuVision carried the program from August 2008 to November 2009.

After the program’s 2005 cancellation by Telemundo, Canales sued the network. According to the lawsuit, Canales was the victim of dishonest and illegal business tactics by the network, which also allegedly damaged Canales’ reputation and obstructed other business prospects. When the case was filed, Canales was requesting $100 million. Afterwards, the lawsuit was abandoned. For his efforts on behalf of the G.I. Forum, Canales was honored with a “Veteran of the Year” award by LULAC on May 31, 2009.

Nora, Canales’ wife, claimed that despite their best efforts to film a pilot in 2008, the project was shelved as he experienced a string of health issues, including a stroke. He recovered fully after heart surgery and physical rehabilitation. He had health issues all the way up until his passing.

In Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 29, 2011, Canales organized a free performance at the Selena Auditorium at the American Bank Center. Grammy Award-winning performers like Ruben Ramos & The Texas Revolution, Los Palominos, Ramon Ayala, and many more performed at the event. In an attempt to get the show back on the air, Canales wants to offer the edited and recorded pilot to networks.
