Mark Blanchard Obituary News; Halifax, Nova Scotia Man and Resources Manager, Network at Global Television Passes Away

Mark Blanchard, a resources manager at Global TV, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has died. Global News, founded in 1994 and headquartered in Ontario, Canada, provides news broadcasting and other services to consumers.

Who Was Mark Blanchard?

Mark Blanchard was a manager with Global’s network resources desk. Mark helped field crews who moved fast and needed to file quickly once they hit the ground with the technology and logistics of newsgathering. He started out as a print reporter at a Nova Scotia daily almost 30 years ago but ended up working in radio and TV newsrooms both in Canada and the U.S., as well as writing Canadian stories for American telecom and business publications. His editorial roles at Global turned into technical support ones as laptops got lighter and upload speeds faster.

When he was not in the field, Mark helped his competitors as the coordinator of the Trenton Pool and the TVP file replication system, which moves the bulk of video from pool crews covering the prime minister abroad as ones and zeros instead of traditional satellite or fibre feeds, saving time, money, and effort.
