15-year-old Steven Legay, of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away from a kayaking accident. The news of his passing was made known through a publication made on Facebook. Steven Legay spent three days on life support following the kayaking tragedy. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he was sadly ruled brain dead.

He was a beloved son, and his death was officially notified by a touching message that said: “Steven Legay. A kid who was fired up on kayaking and always willing to learn. I’m so thankful for the time we got to spend together this past week, eating epic pizza at moonlight, talking about our lives and how to grow within the sport with sponsors. I will cherish the moments we’ve had paddling everywhere from the Russell fork to out here. I will never forget you, it was a pleasure being your team manager and mentor as much as I could be. Rest easy.”
